Leviathan I is the first of two releases exploring the beast of grief that befalls us after difficult losses and it marks a shift in my work. The album is a return to guitar and some of my shoegaze. This is a darker and noisier outing than previous releases. It is the sound of an inner beast being allowed to wail in pain and expressing gratitude for being seen and heard. It is an album filled with deep, swelling guitar distortion, walls of noise, dense fields of guitar/modular synth drone, and neon glowing fuzz. It’s equal parts shoegaze, drone metal and Blade Runner ambience.

The album came to light through the experience of sitting with grief and meditating on it with a guitar in hand. Using tone, texture and sometimes minimal melodies to capture the nuances revealed in the moment. Music became central to the work of my own healing. I committed to musically meditating with whatever energy was with me in the studio each day. I became a conduit for a sea of unhealed things deep within me. This work is about giving those things a voice, looking them in the face and not shrinking away. Providing space for understanding and ultimately learning to embrace these things instead of endlessly fighting against them.
