Leviathan II is the second of two releases exploring the beast of grief that befalls us after a difficult loss and continues to mark a shift in the work of Detroit-based artist Steve Swartz. Leviathan I & II are a return to guitar and his shoegaze roots as seen on his Nighttide album and his work in the band Au Revoir Borealis.

While Leviathan I explores the anger stage of grief, II is more about acceptance and letting go. Recognizing that we get to grieve because we’ve been privileged to cherish. It’s the sound of an inner beast being allowed to wail in pain and expressing gratitude for being seen and heard. It’s an album filled with deep, swelling guitar distortion, walls of noise, dense fields of guitar/modular synth drone, and neon glowing fuzz. It’s equal parts shoegaze, drone metal, post-rock and Blade Runner ambience.
